Music Monday - Down There by the Train : Dustin Kensrue

I've posted about Dustin Kensrue and Thrice. He is the lead singer of Thrice.
He is very Christian and has a ton of Christian themed songs.
We went and saw Dustin in a concert last week and it was AAAAAAAAMAZING!!!!!
This song I'm sharing was originally written and played by Tom Waits (or Johnny Cash :S), but his voice is super distracting, haha.

He said that someone asked him about what this song was about and he told them it was about Grace.

Down there by the Train

Lyrics:
"Down There By The Train"

There's a place I know where the train goes slow
Where the sinner can be washed in the blood of the lamb
There's a river by the trestle down by sinner's grove
Down where the willow and the dogwood grow

You can hear the whistle, you can hear the bell
From the halls of heaven to the gates of hell
And there's room for the forsaken if you're there on time
You'll be washed of all your sins and all of your crimes
If you're down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there where the train goes slow

There's a golden moon that shines up through the mist
And I know that your name can be on that list
There's no eye for an eye, there's no tooth for a tooth
I saw Judas Iscariot carrying John Wilkes Booth
He was down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
He was down there where the train goes slow

If you've lost all your hope, if you've lost all your faith
I know you can be cared for and I know you can be safe
And all the shamefuls and all of the whores
And even the soldier who pierced the side of the Lord
Is down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there where the train goes slow

Well, I've never asked forgiveness and I've never said a prayer
Never given of myself, never truly cared
I've left the ones who loved me and I'm still raising Cain
I've taken the low road and if you've done the same
Meet me down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there where the train goes slow

Meet me down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there where the train goes slow

He also has a new album out! Carry the Fire. Check that out too.
He is an amazing lyricist, and has some amazing love songs (but not that sappy kind) on there.

Music Monday- Try to bend a river, Idiot Wind

This is one of my new favorite songs.
I posted it on FB but who knows who looked at it.
It's by Idiot Wind, which is not her real name, luckily.
It gets stuck in my head all the time, in the most annoying way.
I think it is so beautiful.

Music Monday- I've got a brand new pair of rollerskates

PEOPLE!!!!
I never find new music. My husband does. I don't even know how to find new music! Do you just listen to tons of music on youtube until you find something you like?! Sounds long and painful...
Also, I never really listened to old music. I knew who the Beatles WERE, but I didn't really know their music at all until high school. It's sad. I also didn't know who the White Stripes were until I married Shane. I just wasn't exposed to old music. I mean, I knew who Boston and Journey were, and I knew my mom was in love with Elvis when she was younger. So thats it...
But... I have wonderful news! No, I didn't find new music, Shane did, again :) What would I do without him?
Even better? It's a song from the 70's that I've never heard of! I'm pretty stoked about it. That's one of the reason I'm breaking the rule of sticking to my assigned post days (Music Monday, Tiny Tuesday... those are annoying to try and stick to... but they sound really cute so whatever).

Here it is my friends! I hope you like it as much as I do.

Cold War Kids- Audience.

I hope I haven't done this song before.
I rediscovered this song on Shane's zune a few weeks ago and.... I love it.
I don't need any huge reasons to share a song right?

**Also, if you find yourself venturing into more Cold War Kids songs, I can't promise that you won't hear some choice words. I only know a few of their songs, and I have come across a few undesirable**

Music Monday- Powerful Stuff

You want to hear a cool story about how I found this song, don't you?
Okay it began one night a few years ago, and... I was watching TV.
Then something magical happened! A car commercial came on!
And the song was on that and I liked it and I googled it and bought it.
As usual, I have no idea what he is talking about half the time. But that's what makes good music.
Have a listen. Powerful Stuff, Sean Hayes.

Music Monday- and ramblings on life

Sometimes growing up really stinks.
Most of the time it's the best, and it's hard and it's challenging and your grow and you can see it.
But sometimes it's the worst kind of hard.
The hard that pops up in your mind throughout the day.
A big thing, or a million tiny ones.
The hard that makes your ribs hurt when you try and breathe your way through it.
The hard that makes your feel like you don't know who you are anymore.
Looking in the mirror becomes more than just a quick check on what you look like, it becomes more of a "where am I going?" look.
A long, long look.
The hard that kicks tears out your eyes throughout the day when you keep trying to not remember it. You can't forget it, but you can try to not remember. They aren't the same thing.
The hard that is responsible for any tears your pillow soaks up.
It doesn't matter what your "hard thing" is.
And maybe you don't have these same symptoms as I do.
But it can be hard.
The worst and the best part is that you know if you do it right then one day you will look back.
You will see that the "hard thing" was really the best thing.
Hard times get us moving when we normally would choose to stay still and never budge.
It's a forceful stretch, and it hurts and it feels like you are breaking, but you're not.
Even if you do, you come back stronger.
It takes a while to see that part. The good part.
When you look in the mirror again and you realize you do know who you are, and you never really forgot. And you see your strength.
You are stronger.
Then you are proud. Proud that you made it.
You passed through the dark part and in those few seconds you know you can do anything.
That's the best part about the hard part.
There will be more hard parts, but you can do anything.
You can do anything.
Anything!!!
You just have to do it right.
You just need to be strong.
Not all the time, but most of the time.
That's life.
That is growing up.

Now, listen to this song and cry your eyes out.

Music Monday- The Fox the Crow and the Cookie

I love songs that tell stories.
Don't watch the music video, it ruins your own imagined version of the story.
Well... you can. Just saying, haha.

Music Monday - Neighborhood 3

Hey. Rough day over here. Hahaha. Here's a good song to dance your stress out to.

Arcade Fire- Neighborhood 3

Photobucket

The Tallest Friday night.

I love The Tallest Man on Earth. I realize that I never shut up about him. We had the blessed opportunity to see him, in person, front row, spits length away. He ruffled my hair. Also, he is NOT the tallest man on the earth. He is a very skinny and short Swede. So if you aren't catching on to this "Tallest" thing... it doesn't actually mean tall. In one of his songs, "the gardener" he says "so I can stay the tallest man in your eyes babe". HA get it! Ya I hope you are getting it.

So listen to this song. and I will blab about the concert.
Ready, GO!
Our friends waited in line for 2 hours, were first in line, and got a spot right at the front!
He would always come right in front of us! In fact, our friend Bran was making a video, and at the end of the song TTMoE bent down and put his finger on the camera hole, then laughed and ruffled Bran's hair. Hahaha! It was great.

People say he sounds a lot like Bob Dylan. I know who that is but... I've never listened to his stuff. TTMoE references Bob Dylan songs in his music. Like boots of spanish leather.
Most, if not all of the pictures were taken by Shane. So gras Shaney!
On the last encore song he was right by us again, so Shane reached out his hand, so I decided to do the same. TTMoE grabbed Shane's hand, patted it, ruffled MY HAIR, then touched Shane's face. Then Bran and Shane patted him on the back.
So what I'm trying to tell you is that we are best friends with him now.

He's a goody. I would spend all day telling you why I love his music but 'aint nobody got time for that.

Music Monday- Memorial Day...

I know I've posted this song for Music Monday before... but I thought it was a good song to celebrate Memorial Day.
I can't even imagine how hard it must be to leave your home and family, or to have someone you love leave to serve our country. We are so blessed to have people who are willing to serve and dedicate their lives to our safety. May we remember those who have fought for us, especially those who lost their lives in the fight.

This is a new song my little sister showed to me.
I have listened to it around... 100 times in 5 days.

Here it is!!!!

Music Monday- Midas Whale

Hey.
No! I am NOT going to mention the fact that it has been 2 weeks since I posted anything! OR that we've been moving to a new city and that is stressful and that I totally blew it!!!!!! ORRRR that I am totally owning up to my laziness! Yeah, not gonna do that. I'm sick of saying sorry.
(am I in a relationship with this blog?...)
What I really want to say is that I have missed you.
So, Music Monday :)
My brother, Janson, showed me this awesome band named Midas Whale.
If you watch The Voice then you've probably seen/heard them.
Here is a song.
They might only have covers out right now... I'm not sure.
But they are folksy, which is what I'm totally into right now. Totally.
They also have a Kickstarter page!!! So if you are feeling generous and would like to help them get an album out of original songs then you can donate here.
I'm pretty excited about them.
Hopefully they can reach their goal!

Also, I'm thinking of starting a Kickstarter page so I can buy a new lens and a large amount of oreos.
I think it will be pretty successful. Because people care that much about me and my unhealthy addictions to Oreos.
:) bye.

Music Monday. Amos Lee- Sweet Pea

I've been lazy on the blog lately. I didn't even post a Tiny Tuesday last week... shame on me. But I've been in a ferocious house packing mode. We are moving all our big things this Saturday, then a week later we are out of here for good. I felt like chilling out tonight, watching murder mystery-ish shows and listening to this here song.
It reminds me so much of Tae.
Enjoy!

Music Monday. Transcontinental- Pedro the Lion.

This song was one of the first I had ever heard Shane play and sing my freshman year.
It's fine if you don't like it, it took me a bit, but now I love it.

Music Monday- Boom Swagger Boom

This song pops up on Shane's zune every once in a while and I LOVE it. I can never remember the name of it or who sings it after it moves to the next song. Luckily, Shane just brought it up.
Boom Swagga Boom by Murder City Devils. Don't let the name get ya, it's a goody.

Music Monday- Cat Power, Sea of Love

Hey all. Life is crazy and stressful right now. But... it wouldn't be life without stress and plenty of craziness.
I picked a peaceful song Shane was playing yesterday.
It's called Sea of Love.
Enjoy.

Music Monday- White Stripes

I couldn't think of a specific song I wanted to do. So we put our Zune on shuffle and played the first song that came up. Okay I lied. We went through a ton of them and couldn't find one that fit. Then I remembered a preview for a movie and it has this gem playing through the whole thing.
I actually didn't know anything about this song until I met Shane.
Enjoy.
P.S. this music video makes me feel sick.

The Curse of Curls.

Curly Hair, is that a blessing, or a curse?
Honestly, depends on the day.
Some days I feel like a movie star (maybe a movie star from the 80's), and other days I feel like Captain Hooks doppelganger.

I'm beginng to realize what my mom went through when it came to MY hair when I was little, Tae is pretty curly herself. The day starts with some cute piggie or a ponytail, and by mid-day it looks like she stuck a fork in a socket.

This is me.
Don't tell me whether you think I'm cute or if you pity me. I don't want to know.
(spell the word clown with me.... M-A-R-L-Y-N, thank you)

This one is not so bad...
My poor mom. I mean, WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO?!
I didn't like to actually DO my hair, I'd rather be climbing a tree or eating ants!
So my mom kept it short. Easier to do, and ......... I dunno what else....

This is me in my sophomore year of high school. I think I learned to handle it pretty well. I'm obviously skipping on the puberty/awkward stage pictures. But I wouldn't put you through that.
(on a random note, someone stole that jacket and I WILL find you!)
Throughout my life I have tried many a hair product.
There ARE plenty out there! But... you never actually look like the girls in the commercials. That is probably because they are wearing makeup in the face wash commercials, they have photoshopped their skin like crazy in the lotion commercials, and I'm pretty FREAKING sure they don't actually have curly hair in the curly hair product commercials. And if they do then I would also like the hair dresser to come free of charge with the gel/mousse/syrum I just bought.
Can you tell that I'm passionate about this?
This fire is mostly fueled my many years of being called "bush", people sticking their pencils in my hair and trying to find them again, and being dissappointed every time I tried a new product.
Haha! My life really wasn't that sad. All of that really happened, but I got over it pretty fast, and I'm honestly not as crazy as I sound.

So, I've found it. IT. IT IT IT IT.
The only IT that has been close enough to be even considered and IT.
IT is the best-so-far curly hair product I've found yet!
It's a curl defining cream. And it honestly has the weirdest name.
So... come back for more pictures (possibly more embarrassing ones) and to find out the name of this tiny miracle I found at Walmart.

***ever since I typed the title to this post I've had this song stuck in my head. Let's make this a makeshift Music Monday. Listen here.***
